It’s been a while since I took my zoom lens on a test drive. I was so stoked about the detail!

I tested out my amazing zoom lens by balancing on a window, in the dark. After trying out different modes, aperture priority is what actually worked, at 7.1, which isn’t even a stretch! I love my camera.

I’m digging these guys right now. I know they’re nordic and stylised, but I did grow up classically trained, and spent most of my life creating three part harmonies for girls (with a generous amount of divisi), so I couldn’t resist their sound.

Look out for their song “Lean”. My absolute favorite song right now.

Yeah. That’s my hair. Also, that’s my hair in February!! I won’t have to cut it this year. Some of you have been asking how I got the look I had in my last self portrait. Well, in my last photo the curls were like the kind you get with a crimper (if it was a 3D crimper! ) but these are more like the looser, round curls I can’t wait to wear everyday during the summer.

To get the first kind, you have to braid your hair using the three strand (matuta) method. They would be small, with the partitions about .5 x .5 inches for hair my length or bigger if your hair is longer. It also depends on the tightness or looseness you are trying to achieve.

In this image, I used the bantu knot. I learned it from a couple hair bloggers on youtube that have been sharing this trend. Thank you ladies!

I began with two strand twists on my very wet and conditioned hair, then twisted each one around itself into a bantu knot.    You need to sort of stretch your hair out, especially the ends, so they dont clump up. It will tangle if it dries up that way!

Undo them in the morning and pick them apart carefully. They will be short at first, but you can stretch them out. Adding conditioner at this point will add volume (if the conditioner is water based).

Water is your friend. Seriously. I haven’t had hair this black or shiny in ages.

Life changed. We changed to try to maintain

Our bags were impaled.

We only had the strength in us to let go
The gentle waves of day in, day out
Wore the fort down.
Some years, some kids and some careers
Created distance between us like multiple grand canyons.
We had no idea but it’s clear now and here’s how:

And one door.
